Operation on the Line Jaroměř – Stará Paka Now Safer and More Economic

Dvůr Králové nad Labem, 6 December 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration) festively completed modernisation of safety equipment on the line Jaroměř – Stará Paka. The project’s objective was especially an increasing of operation safety on the railway by limiting the human factor influence and an introducing of safety equipment remote control.

”Construction works in the section Jaroměř – Stará Paka were beneficial for a number of reasons. Installing safety control remote control and further modernisation improved operative control, increased safety on the line and decreased its operation costs”, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC about the construction’s assets.

The project had as objective building modern electronic systems within signalling and safety equipment Category 3. These eliminate any possible failures of the human factor and allow applying super-structural systems to provide IT control comfort for attending personnel. The new control system ensured shorter operation intervals for crossing of trains at stations and thus a shortening of their journey times. Safety equipment is newly controlled by a dispatcher from the Unified Control Place at Stará Paka.

The construction also included adaptations of platforms and roofing at railway stations and stops with the objective to ensure comfortable and barrier-free access for passengers. Lighting was also modernised to ensure safety at platforms during nighttime. Installed switches of a new type brought a considerable increase of operation safety as well as travelling comfort.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Safety equipment remote control on the line Jaroměř (outside) – Stará Paka (outside) equalled CZK 461,357,968 (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to a maximum amount of CZK 365,929,241. National financing of the project was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
