03.11.2016

Železná Ruda, 3 November 2016 - Správa železniční dopravní cesty has reconstructed almost a fifty-kilometre-long railway section between Klatovy and Železná Ruda. Festive completion of the extensive refurbishment took place in the premises of railway station Železná Ruda-Alžbětín which is situated directly on the Czech-German border. The main benefit of the project is particularly increasing the line´s speed and provision of more comfort and safety of passengers.

The construction is based on the concept of the Plan of Serviceability of Pilsen Region and is in accordance with the perspective concept of long-distance passenger transport of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic. It meant in particular increasing speed on this touristically popular railway junction and thus it has shortened the travel time of trains. Capacity and safety of the line increased as well. Among the most visible benefits of the project we can include the construction of new platforms and the reconstruction or modification of lighting in stations.

"The line from Klatovy to Železná Ruda is a part of an important link from Pilsen to Šumava. The implementation of the project will mainly contribute to enhanced comfort and acceleration of rail traffic in the area," said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of Správa železniční dopravní cesty.

Within the construction, adaptations of the railway superstructure and substructure were made and installation of cables has been restored as well. Builders built a new 3rd category safety device and modern communication equipment in all railway stations with the exception of Klatovy and in concerned railway sections. Nine railway crossing safety devices were newly built, other crossings were adapted and integrated into the system of remote control.

Railway stations and stops on the line were equipped by cameras. A radio and an information system were also installed. Furthermore, the whole line is equipped with a modern communication system used to transmit data and control other technologies. A track and a local radio system were also renovated. The whole line is now managed from a control centre which is located at Železná Ruda-Alžbětín railway station.
