Modernization of the Line Nymburk – Mladá Boleslav Will Help Especially Freight Transport

14.08.2018

Increasing railway infrastructure operational capacity between Nymburk and Mladá Boleslav especially for needs of intense freight transport is the objective of Phase 2 of the project implemented by Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) on the single-track line mentioned above. Construction modifications include extending running tracks at Čachovice railway station and establishing a new passing point Straky. The construction’s supplier is the association Nymburk – Mladá Boleslav consisting of members AŽD Praha, TSS GRADE and SILNICE GROUP. The investments amounting to CZK 335 million will be completed next December. The construction is co-financed from the OPT programme for the period 2014 - 2020.

Modernization of the above-mentioned railway line in the section from the current station Luštěnice-Újezd to Mladá Boleslav hlavní nádraží was part of Phase 1 of the project ”increasing capacity of the line Nymburk – Mladá Boleslav” the implementation of which was completed in 2016. The current project will include e.g. saving the railway substructure, reconstructing the railway superstructure and bridges at the new passing point Straky as well as at the Čachovice station where running tracks will be also extended for trains with a length up to 650 m. New platforms including barrier-free access will be built as well. Safety, signalling and heavy-current equipment will be modified or exchanged for a new one to be located in new technological buildings. Line speed will reach 100 kph. Safeguarding railway crossings will improve in the whole line section as well.

The focus of the line Nymburk – Mladá Boleslav importance consists in freight transport. The main carrier is ČD Cargo with prevailing transport for the company ŠKODA AUTO, more specifically the main company branch in Mladá Boleslav. The line connects industry companies in Mladá Boleslav and its surroundings with the marshalling yard in Nymburk, situated on the backbone railway line Kolín – Děčín. The freight transport volume is continually growing in the long term; therefore transport capacity has to increase. The goods being carried on the line are both raw materials (coal, steel coils), and finished products (automobiles or their assembled parts). Besides these transports, the line serves also long-distance freight trains heading to the regions of Liberec, Turnov, Česká Lípa and to Poland.
