Cheb Station Will Acquire Barrie-Free Access to Platforms

”The biggest asset for passengers in this highly frequented railway junction will be building lifts which will allow barrier-free access to all platforms. Their boarding edge at a standard height of 550 mm above the track will enable boarding and leaving trains quite comfortably. All platforms will be equipped with leading lines for sightless people as well as with safety and signal stripes in their whole length. Roofing of platforms and the current underpass are also going to be reconstructed“, says Mr. Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC.

Works on railway superstructure and substructure are also part of the project, including i.a. the installation of new switch points which will moreover acquire electric heating. Speed of trains passing though the passenger station will subsequently increase from 60 to 80 kph.

The construction will result in more reliable and safer railway transport and higher travelling comfort. The information system, ensuring access to platforms for passengers with limited mobility and orientation as well as higher operation reliability will get railway transport more attractive and thus increase the number of passengers and revenues.

The construction designated as Modernisation of Cheb Railway Station is co-financed by the European Union from the Connecting Europe Facility programme (CEF). Total planned costs of the project reach up to CZK 516,895,367 (VAT excluded). The EU support rate is 83.49% from eligible costs. The maximum subsidy amount reaches approximately up to € 15,351,564, i.e. approx. CZK 388,931,873 [1]. Financing from national resources is provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
