Travelling by train between Most and Chomutov is faster and safer

Most, 10 May 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Railway Infrastructure Administration - SŽDC) improved parameters of the railway line leading from Ústí nad Labem to Klášterec nad Ohří in the section between Most and Chomutov. The main objective of this project was to achieve a technical state for this line section corresponding to EU parameters and standards.


The construction included adaptations of railway stations Třebušice, Kyjice and partially Most as well. Builders reconstructed the railway superstructure and substructure, bridges and parts of the catenary. In connection with exchanging the railway superstructure; electrical heating of switches was also adapted to increase operation safety and functionality especially in winter. Station and track safety equipment was renewed as well

”The asset of all adaptations carried out in the line section Most – Chomutov is especially an increase of travelling comfort and safety on the line. Thanks to this project’s implementation, drops of line speed in this section could be decreased which will be appreciated especially by passengers “, says Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.

According to the global objective of Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 1 which is an improvement of railway transport on the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T, the project allowed to achieve higher transport availability, ensure infrastructure capacity and railway operation quality for prospective transport volumes. In addition to decreasing drops of line speed, another positive impact of the project is higher safety on railway crossings.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Line 130 Ústí nad.Labem. – Klášterec nad Ohří, section Most - Chomutov amounted up to 911,494,569 CZK (VAT excluded). The construction’s investor was Správa železniční dopravní cesty, státní organizace. The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to a maximum amount of 434,992,353 CZK. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier was the company STRABAG Rail a.s.
