Information from SŽDC Administration Board Session

”Based on high expertise and long-term positive experience with the activity of the Deputy Director General Mr. Svoboda, we decided to appoint him to the position of SŽDC Director General“, said Mr. Vladimír Novotný, Chairman of the Administration Board as far as this decision is concerned. Mr. Svoboda had already been charged by managing the company during the last Administration Board session after the resignation of Mr. Pavel Surý in February 2018.

”I appreciate the trust of the SŽDC Administration Board and the transport sector management. I would like to concentrate even more on regional lines, railway station buildings or a scrutiny of IT systems. These are topics which will guide my first steps“, said Mr. Jiří Svoboda on the occasion of his appointment.

At the same time, the Administration Board in concert with Mr. Dan Ťok, Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic, assigned the new Director General a task to submit a plan for reduction of the SŽDC managing staff by 3% to the Board up to 30 September 2018.

Bc. Jiří Svoboda, MBA

Mr. Svoboda was born in 1970.  After graduating from the High Technical School in Česká Třebová he started working at Československé státní dráhy (Czechoslovak State Railways) in 1988 as a train dispatcher. Since 1997 he had been working as a technical group leader and Station Head Deputy for Technology and Economy at Česká Třebová. Then he transferred to Pardubice where he worked for České dráhy in the position of Deputy Director for Economy at the Commerce and Operation Directorate, Head for Finance and Economy and once again as Deputy Director for Economy at the local Infrastructure Administration. Since 2006 he worked as Office Director of the Deputy Director General for Economy at ČD and following that at SŽDC. There he became Director of the Purchase and Public Tender Section in November 2011. In July 2016 he was appointed Deputy Director General for Rail Operability. Now he has been appointed head of SŽDC by its Administration Board.
