20.09.2017

Today, SŽDC festively completed repairs of the railway station in Štěpánov. The construction also included adaptations of unused premises or the waiting room for passengers. Roofing of the building was also completely repaired, and the original station designation has been changed as well. SŽDC has spent for repair works a sum of CZK 3.3 million. Only in Olomoucký Region, the state organisation prepares revitalisation or repairs of almost fifty railway stations in the five years to follow.

The railway station in Štěpánov underwent complex reconstruction works during 2002–2004, including also the passenger building as such. After 2008, when a train dispatcher stopped working at the station, the cash desk was closed as well. In the following years, the unused building started to decay. Last year, the municipality expressed its interest in using the passenger building’s premises. Therefore, SŽDC included its adaptations among priority constructions for this year.

The original passenger building dates from 1845 and during the years it continued to grow. However, it kept its original architectonical shape of a railway building constructed from fair-face brickwork which was more capable of resisting weather conditions within railway premises and was less demanding on maintenance.

”This year, SŽDC carried out repairs of the wiring system, heating, public lavatories and savings against earth humidity in Štěpánov. The building’s roof was completely repaired; more specifically this included exchanging the roofing, plumber components and repairs of damaged components of metal and roof formwork. Unused premises on the ground floor including the waiting room for passengers were also adapted“, says Mr. Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director General of SŽDC for Assets Management. The original station designation has been replaced by a new one with use of modern LED technology. It is testing operation of a modern lighting system for railway station names. The total amount of repairs’ costs equals CZK 3.3 million.

SŽDC has been dealing with the municipality’s representatives on possible use of the railway station for hobby free-time activities of the inhabitants. Further premises will be offered for commercial use. It has also agreed with the municipality upon reopening the waiting room for passengers.
