SŽDC Begins with Reparation of the First Stations

31.10.2016

Správa železniční dopravní cesty as the new owner of the station buildings declared after their transfer from ČD that it wanted to begin immediately with first repair works. When creating a list of buildings that need intervention most necessarily, SŽDC based it on their actual technical condition.

Project preparation as well as calls for tenders and selecting the contractor must have preceded the launch of repairs itself. For the following construction projects, public tenders have already been announced. It is assumed that the signing of the contract for work will be in early November. In Pilsen and South Bohemia regions, SŽDC has selected the following buildings on which construction work would start by the end of this year.

Roof repair of the building No. 609 Tachov

This is a complete repair of the roof leading to improving the current state of the building, which is in an undignified state due to lack of maintenance and the impact of weather conditions. The existing roof constructions are at the end of their useful life cycle due to leaks and the effect of moisture. The planned repair will be made in the form of replicas and according to local analogies.

The shape and slope of the roof will be retained. The existing worn out wooden truss structural components will be exchanged. The current devastated clay tiles roof covering will be replaced by a pleated concrete covering in a shade of brick red. Destroyed wood siding, tinsmith components and filling of holes will be exchanged. A chimney part above the roof will be demolished and re-bricked. One of the chimneys will be removed down to the level of the floor. The impact on the architectural aspect is thus minimized.

Expected cost 4.1 million Czech crowns.

Total roof repair and replacement of windows at railway station Březnice

This is a complete repair of the roof due to leaks in many places of the construction. All previous repairs that were carried out on the roof of the building were insufficient and could not prevent further leakage. Therefore, a total general repair of the roof is needed. The existing wooden windows and doors are not fully functional, thus their complete replacement is necessary. Levelling of the roof surface will be done including roof membrane anchoring and installing new roofing. As for existing skylights, broken glass will be replaced and coating of metallic parts of skylights will be carried out. Furthermore, an antenna mast will be fixed and unnecessary antennas will be dismantled. Disposal and dismantling of non-functional air vents and inappropriate railings around chimneys will be also performed and a new ladder to chimneys will be set. Additionally, complete supply and installation of new lightning conductors will be made.

Expected cost 2.7 million Czech crowns.

Total roof repair and replacement of windows at railway station Chýnov

This is a complete repair of the roof due to leaks in many places of the construction. The repairs will start by removal and ecological disposal of existing original roofing eternit sheeting. There will also be a replacement of ceilings, boards, beams, wood cladding and painting of side rafter soffits and wood cladding.

A chimney part above the roof will be broken down and re-bricked, an installation of access bridges to chimneys and construction of roof exits will be made. On the roof, roof battens will be replaced and a pleated concrete covering will be set. Within the repairs, the building will get  a new lightning conductor, gutters and downspouts which will be connected to the storm sewer.

Expected cost 1.1 million Czech crowns.

Since 1 July, 2016 SŽDC has owned 1,575 station buildings across the country that have been purchased from České dráhy for 3.31 billion Czech crowns. SŽDC will be able to use financial resources for their repairs also from the EU funds unlike their original owner. When creating a list of buildings that need intervention most necessarily, SŽDC based it on their actual technical condition as well as on the extent of project preparation of a reconstruction made by their original owner. This year, SŽDC plans to launch constructions and repairs at approximately eighty stations for circa 166 million Czech crowns.
