SŽDC Wil Spent This Year CZK 100 Million for Repairs of East Bohemia Railway Stations

10.04.2018

Repairs at railway stations in Hradec Králové, Přelouč, Nový Bydžov or Doudleby nad Orlicí – there are the largest investments in passenger buildings in Hradec Králové Region and Pardubice Region which will be implemented this year. Some of these were launched last year already and will be finished this year, others started this year and will continue till next year. In total, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) wants to invest a sum of CZK 100 million for these purposes.

The largest project in East Bohemia concerns repairs of the passenger buildings in the capital of Hradec Králové Region which started last autumn and will be completed this spring. For a total sum of CZK 35 million, glass roofing and the ceilings in the passenger building hall are being repaired; in autumn, repairs of the hall coating should start, the hall floor is as going to be renovated as well. As the railway station is a listed building, works on renovation of the hall floor will be rather complicated. ”We are obliged to find a solution that can handle current activities in the hall. The preservationists prefer a solution with safeguarding a part of the original floors“, says Mr. Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director General for Property Management. Everything will be carried out within the station’s full operation, only the passengers’ flows should be directed in such a way to move out of the working area.

CZK 23 million in total will be spent for repairs of the passenger building in Nový Bydžov which will start in the second half of the year and will be completed next year. The reconstruction will concern not only the building’s external coating but internal space as well, both for service purposes and for the public. The station building in Doudleby nad Orlicí will undergo the same rejuvenation cure for a price of CZK 14.7 million. During the first half of the year, repairs of the passenger building should end in Meziměstí with renovation of the roofing including sheet metal parts, external surface, coating and wood parts renewal and lighting repairs for a sum of CZK 9.5 million. From smaller projects we can name e.g. repairs of water-proofing, the lavatories, the façade and the roof in Lázně Bělohrad (CZK 6.5 million), repairs of service premises in the passenger building in Malé Svatoňovice for CZK 4.8 million and repairs of internal premises and an extension of the Jaroměř Station building. Soon, repairs of buildings in Nová Paka, Dvůr Králové nad Labem, Smidary and Potštejn should start.

In the neighbouring Pardubice Region, the largest project carried out this year will be a complex renovation of the passenger building including public areas in Přelouč which will start in the second half of the year and will last till 2020 for a sum of CZK 32.6 million. Larger station buildings to be renovated in the region are those in Žamberk or Vysoké Mýto. Of course we must not forget the passenger building at the main station of Pardubice. Repairs of this building are one of the SŽDC main priorities for the years to follow in the region. This will be a quite challenging project, not only from the financial point of view. ”At present, negotiations are taking place with railway units, the municipality of Pardubice and possible lessees, various dispositional and technical solutions are being taken into consideration. We remain in contact with the intellectual property owner Mr. Miroslav Řepa, the project designer prepares documents for dealing with bodies of care for historical monuments“, adds Mr. Tomáš Drmola. Due to the extensiveness of this project, costs are estimated in hundreds of millions CZK. The construction can start not sooner than next year.
