CZK 142 million for Repairs and Reconstructions of Railway Stations in Olomouc Region This Year

22.03.2018

This year, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) will start repairs and large-scale renovations of more than twenty railway stations in the Olomouc Region. The Infrastructure Manager estimates the total construction and project preparation costs to be CZK 142 million. The ongoing reconstruction of Přerov Railway Station and the station building in Lipník nad Bečvou will be followed by renovations of station buildings in Hanušovice, Šternberk or some smaller railway stations in the city of Olomouc or Jeseníky area.

"In the Olomouc Region, the amount of resources is planned to be the highest among all regions this year. This is due to project preparation without complications or delays. Moreover, since the end of last year we have been carrying out the first major investment projects in Lipník nad Bečvou and Přerov. The plans are very optimistic, but we still have to allow for potential delays in the project preparation as well as for the market capacity of both project contractors and contractors with experience in railway construction", explains Mr. Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director General for Property Management. The repairs to Přerov railway station, listed as a protected building, focuses mainly on the exterior and interior areas at the first platform, including the hall and the roof. The complex renovation project for the station building in Lipník nad Bečvou includes the exterior of the building and also provides for the necessary redesigning of the public areas. The total investment costs in these two projects will exceed CZK 36 million.

The Šternberk station renovation has been awaited for a long time already. "The aim of the designers was to come up with the optimal construction project to preserve the specific character of the railway station while still meeting the current needs of the railway transport. For this reason, the first floor and side parts of the building will have to be torn down. The reconstruction itself will be divided into three phases and will be coordinated with the modernization of the Olomouc - Uničov - Šumperk line. The total cost is expected to be about CZK 34 million", says Mr. Gabriel Jursa, Director of SŽDC's Passenger Station Administration in Olomouc, and adds: "We want to begin the works this year and finish before spring of 2020 at the latest."

Other major investments include the renovation of the station building in Hanušovice. "We are going to tear down the south and north wings, which have been unused for a long time and house obsolete operation and technological facilities of the building and an abandoned restaurant. The public areas are also going to be extensively reconstructed. The building will also restore its original architectural character”, says Mr. Jursa.

The project documentation is being finalised at the moment and if no complications occur during the building proceedings and public tendering, the works will start this year and take about 18 months. Total investment is estimated at CZK 36 million.

Hanušovice station is not the only one in the Jeseníky area to be renovated. In Branná, the facade will be repaired and insulated and public areas renovated this year with a total cost of about CZK 3.5 million. At the same time, a project of repairing the facade, replacing windows and doors and renovating the public toilets is being planned for about CZK 2.8 million in Javorník, Silesia. Similar projects totalling to more than CZK 40 million are scheduled in the following years for the station buildings in Žulová, Ruda nad Moravou, Bohdíkov, Vápenná or Ostružná, the last of which thus becoming a worthy entrance gate to the frequently visited ski resort.

As part of the scheduled renovations, SŽDC also focused on the railway stations in disrepair on the line from Olomouc to Moravský Beroun. Specifically, these are station buildings in Hlubočky, Hlubočky-Mariánské Údolí and in Velká Bystřice. The first-mentioned renovation will be the most expensive and will cost approximately CZK 17 million. The Art Nouveau style of the building is to be preserved. The parts not used for railway operation will be demolished and the passageway will be removed along with the adjacent dilapidated building owned by České dráhy. Interior public areas as well as the surroundings of the station building will be renovated. In Hlubočky-Mariánské Údolí, the complete renovation of the building will amount to approximately CZK 7.5 million. The facility manager in Velká Bystřice is also planning to remove extensions, build new public toilets, repair the facade and replace windows and doors, the costs of which will exceed CZK 5 million.

Smaller station buildings in Olomouc-Řepčín and Olomouc město will not be omitted. In Řepčín, unused parts will be torn down, and the exterior design is cleverly devised as a reference to the adjacent Moravian Ironworks. The condition of the building is unsatisfactory and the scheduled renovation for approximately CZK 5.1 million is absolutely necessary. The station building in Olomouc město will have a new facade for CZK 2.5 million. The recently commenced reconstruction in Grygov should also be mentioned as the railway station there is a listed building and works are being carried out in close cooperation with preservationists.

At the same time, SŽDC will start designing other larger investment projects, including the reconstruction of Kojetín Railway Station. The project will be divided into several phases and will conform to the extensive modernization of the Brno - Přerov line. The present-day railway station with excess capacity will be scaled down and completely modernized for about CZK 30 million. This year, renovation projects will be designed also for railway stations in Domašov nad Bystřicí, Prostějov local station, Jindřichov na Moravě, Bludov or Říkovice.

Further substantial investment amounting to millions of CZK will be used to install security technologies at the busiest railway stations in the region, namely the main railway station in Olomouc and Přerov.
