SŽDC modernised switches on railway lines in Moravia

Olomouc, 13 May 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Czech Railway Infrastructure administration) completed modernisation of switches on single-track lines in the district of the Regional Directorate Olomouc and at Zábřeh na Moravě and Hranice na Moravě railway stations. The main asset of the project is ensuring higher transport smoothness and increasing railway operation safety.

”The construction included modernisation of switches which acquired electric heating for smooth operation for the whole year. The original switches were passable in winter conditions only with limitations and required frequent checks and cleaning “, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC about the main project’s objective.

Before the construction’s implementation, the operating points Drahanovice and Třebčín and railway stations Věžky, Jindřichov na Moravě and Hlubočky did not have technology for railway switches’ electrical heating (EOV). Due to missing heating, disturbances of transport smoothness occurred, especially during winter. At Zábřeh na Moravě and Hranice na Moravě railway stations, technology for railway switches’ electrical heating (EOV) was already installed earlier and it was completed within this construction.

The project is based on the global objective of Priority Axis 3 which is improving railway transport outside the Trans-European Network (TEN-T). Thanks to this construction, an increase in transport availability was achieved.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as: Installing EOV on single-track lines in the district of Regional Directorate Olomouc and completing EOV at Zábřeh na Moravě and Hranice na Moravě railway stations amounted to CZK 16,792,402 (VAT excluded). The project was approved for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with a planned contribution amount from the Cohesion Fund reaching up to CZK 7,407,117. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier was the company Elektrizace železnic Praha a.s.
