Czech Police Starts Using Repaired Premises at Děčín Main Railway Station

Today, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) festively handed over repaired premises in the passenger building of the railway main station in Děčín to the Police of the Czech Republic for future use. Works in the interior of the listed building dating from the mid-19th century were going on since the end of this April
The passenger building in Děčín underwent substantial reconstruction in 2003 within an extensive modernization of the whole cross-border railway station; since then, only minor repairs were carried out there. ”After discussions being held with representatives of the police at the break of the year, a decision was taken to transfer its workplace from an unsatisfactory location in the city centre into our passenger building. After several years, policemen now move to premises where they had worked some time ago already“, explains Mr. Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director General of SŽDC for Assets Management. ”By placing the workplace of the Czech Police into the passenger building of the railway station, we also expect the station and its surroundings to become more secure both for passengers and for citizens and visitors of the city of Děčín“, adds Mr. Drmola
Works had as objective especially repairs and securing defined inner premises and social installations together with extending their current capacity. Repairs of the interior’s part for the workplace of the Czech Police included exchanging used-up mats including perimeter, transition and stop ledges, exchanging sanitary installations and several heaters on the second floor. Inner heat distribution was adapted as well as water pipes, sewerage, the wiring system and complete painting of the walls and ceilings.
An information city centre is situated in the Děčín passenger building since the end of last year; the railway station is officially designated as the Railway Station of the Czech Switzerland National Park. ”We must add that thanks to our cooperation with the Czech Police and its displacement to this building, we succeeded in filling the premises of the station building almost up to 100%. From the point of view of SŽDC as the building’s manager, the premises acquired an optimal use by combining services for passengers, providing information to city visitors, assuring administration background for railway employees, offering commercial additional services to passengers and the presence of state security representatives“, states Mr. Drmola.
