Railway crossings on the line Čerčany – Světlá nad Sázavou are safer thanks to modernisation

23.06.2016

Čerčany, 23 June 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Railway Infrastructure Administration) modernised railway crossings on the line between Čerčany and Světlá nad Sázavou. The reconstruction concerned the railway line crossing with road communications of various levels. The main asset of the project is especially increased railway transport safety in this section and ensuring higher comfort for passengers.

The construction included reconstructing 19 railway crossings and their equipping with light signalling installations on level crossings of the line Čerčany and Světlá nad Sázavou with road communications of various levels. Light equipment works automatically based on the train running which is being recorded by axle counters. Control components of several crossing installations at Hvězdonice, in the vicinity of Zruč nad Sázavou and at Ledeč nad Sázavou are situated in station dispatcher rooms of local railway stations; for the remaining 11 crossings they are completely autonomous.

”Statistics of fatalities and injuries on the railway show unequivocally a necessity of investments into safeguarding railway crossings. The modernisation of 19 crossings on a line 91 kilometres long will ensure not only higher operation safety in this section but also smooth railway and road operation“, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.

The project is based on priorities of the Operational Programme Transport which has as objective to improve railway transport outside the Trans-European Transport Network ‘TEN-T) as well. Its purpose is especially increasing safety and equipment reliability on railway crossings as well as decreasing the human factor influence on level crossings of railway and road transport and centralising signalling and safety equipment.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Safety increase on railway crossings in the section Čerčany – Světlá nad Sázavou amounted to CZK 177,097,173 (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to an amount of CZK 137,215,098. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier was the company První SaZ Plzeň a.s.
