Special Vehicles of SŽDC Acquired Radio Stations for Communication in GSM-R Digital System

12.04.2016

Prague, 12 April 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) equipped its special tractive vehicles with radio stations allowing communication in the GSM-R digital radio system which is going to be introduced on all railway lines in the Czech Republic being part of the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T. In total, 277 vehicles of the railway infrastructure manager were adapted.

The content of the project was equipping 320 special vehicles of SŽDC with complete vehicle radio stations which are able to function both in the Line Radio System (TRS) and the digital GSM-R system. On further 57 vehicles, digital superstructure was added to the analog part already in operation

More specifically, it concerned mechanical installation of control interfaces consisting of a display, an electronics box, a microtelephone, a loudspeaker, a GSM-R unit and required cables. The electrical part of the radio station was connected to the on-board network. Antennas were also installed and connected and finally the whole system was activated and checked.

The point and objective of the project was the equipment’s compatibility with the stationary part of the system which has a direct impact on traffic control and organisation. Its implementation brought an improvement of railway transport on the TEN-T network in accordance with the global objective of Priority Axis 1, i.e. achieving higher transport availability.

Total costs of the construction designated as Radio station for special tractive vehicles equalled CZK 139,686,000 (VAT excluded). The project was proposed for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with a planned amount from the Cohesion Fund reaching up to CZK 108,315,500. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The supplier of construction works was the company ČD - Telematika.
