Travelling in the modernised section Stéblová – Opatovice nad Labem is faster, safer and more comfortable

13.06.2016

Opatovice nad Labem, 13 June 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration) built a second track in the line section Stéblová – Opatovice nad Labem. The project is a first part of the modernisation of the railway line Hradec Králové – Pardubice – Chrudim. The main asset of this construction is especially a line speed increase and ensuring higher passenger comfort and safety.

The modernisation included a construction of a second track between railway stations Stéblová and Opatovice nad Labem, complete reconstruction of the current track, building barrier-free platforms, anti-noise barriers and a new catenary. Construction works included also installation of new signalling and safety equipment, new traffic control and remote diagnostics of technology systems.

”One of the biggest assets of this modernisation is a line speed increase and therefore shorter journey times. Trains can now run at speeds up to 160 kph in the section Stéblová – Opatovice nad Labem. Modernisation also increased transport capacity and ensured higher operation safety and availability for passengers with limited mobility and orientation “, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC about the project’s assets.

”In front of Stéblová Station, we embedded into the line one of the longest switches in the Czech Republic which allows trains to enter a curve at speeds up to 130 kph thanks to its length of 94 metres”, said Mr. Milan Svatoň, Project Manager of the company Skanska. ”The line modernisation will certainly be appreciated by inhabitants of Opatovice nad Labem where we built a new railway stop approximately one kilometre closer to the city centre“, adds Mr. Svatoň.

In accordance with the global objective of Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 3 which is an improvement of railway transport outside the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T, higher transport availability was reached, operational costs were decreased and infrastructure capacity and railway operation quality for a prospective transport extent was assured.

Total costs of the construction designated as Modernisation of the line Hradec Králové – Pardubice – Chrudim, 1st construction, double-tracking of the section Stéblová – Opatovice nad Labem amounted up to 995,307,682 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was submitted for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with a planned contribution from the Cohesion Fund amounting up to 739,103,205 CZK. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier was the company Skanska a. s.
