Modernization of Sudoměřice - Votice Railway Line Will Considerably Shorten Travelling to Southern Bohemia

20.03.2018

The signing of a contract between Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) and the OHL ŽS company practically started the extensive reconstruction of one of the last parts of Czech Rail Transit Corridor IV from Southern Bohemia to Prague. Besides a second track, two new tunnels and one railway station will be constructed in the line section from Sudoměřice u Tábora to Votice. Total estimated construction costs exceed a sum of 7 billion Czech crowns.

”We are glad that after demanding preparations of the whole project, works on a last still not modernized section of Transit Corridor IV can finally start. Its completion will allow to shorten journey times of expresses between Prague and Tábor to one hour“, said Mr. Mojmír Nejezchleb, Deputy Director General of SŘDC for Rail Modernization

”This construction is exceptional both in technical demandingness and in its financial volume. It represents one of the most important orders prepared for implementation by SŽDC as investor in the last period. For OHL ŽS, the construction’s implementation offers the possibility to continue its long-term tradition in railway civil engineering, to demonstrate its rich experience with constructions on railway corridors and especially to use its own capable personnel and machine equipment in such decisive fields as railway superstructure and substructure, bridges, tunnels as well as land and road constructions“, said Mr. Petr Brzezina, Director General of OHL ŽS.

Completing the whole modernization of the still single-track section on the border of South Bohemia and Central Bohemia Region is expected in 2021. The line will lead mostly in a new route which will be by two kilometres shorter than up to now. Train speed will increase up to 160 kph which will assure shorter journey times between Prague and Tábor to one hour. This will be allowed i.a. by the construction of two tunnels Mezno and Deboreč 840 m and 660 m long respectively.

The current stations Střezimíř, Ješetice and Heřmaničky will be replaced by a single one called Červený Újezd. It will be completed by railway stops Mezno, Střezimíř, Červený Újezd, Ješetice and Heřmaničky. In a deep valley between the railway stops Ješetice and Heřmaničky, builders will construct three long scaffold bridges, the longest one being 244 metres long.

Total costs of the construction designated as Modernization of the line Sudoměřice – Votice equal CZK 7,159,049,000 (VAT excluded) The project has been submitted for co-financing approval by the European Union under its Operational Programme Transport 2014–2020 from European Structural and Investment Funds up to an amount of CZK 5,087,000,000. National financing is assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
