New traction substation at Oldřichov u Duchcova will ensure safer and more reliable railway operation

08.11.2016

Oldřichov, 8 November 2016 – Today, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration) festively completed reconstruction of the traction substation Oldřichov. The new converter station is crucial for ensuring safety and reliable operation on respective railway line sections. The necessity of this construction’s implementation was based especially on increasing demand for railway lines’ power feeding.

”Before the reconstruction, the station was equipped with obsolete technology and its technical state did not correspond to EU parameters and standards. The new traction substation ensured a reliable source of electrical power; moreover it increased operation safety as it also allows in case of emergency partial power feeding of lines not directly adjacent to the converter station“, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.

The project was dealing with reconstruction of the technological and structural part of the traction substation and district low voltage distribution including its connection to the catenary. Works also included construction of a new prefabricated service building. At the same time, remote control technology was installed as well as connection to transmission paths, communication equipment and everything necessary for supervision and control from the electrical control centre at Ústí nad Labem.

Complete reconstruction and modernisation of the building allowed especially increasing the substation’s performance due to growing demand for railway lines’ power feeding. The project’s implementation also satisfied requirements for increased railway transport reliability in concerned line sections at any circumstances – more intense operation, unfavourable climatic conditions or power failures at neighbouring traction substations.

Total costs of the construction designated as Increasing traction substation power, substation Oldřichov amounted to CZK 266,221,710 (VAT excluded). The project was approved for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with a planned contribution from the Cohesion Fund amounting up to CZK 189,916,677. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The company Skanska a.s. acted as supplier.
