Operation on the line Trutnov - Teplice nad Metují is safer thanks to modernisation of railway crossings

Teplice nad Metují, 8 June 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration) modernised railway crossings on the line Trutnov - Teplice nad Metují. The biggest asset of this project is an increase of safety in this line section as well as smoother railway and road transport and higher comfort for passengers.

The construction’s objective was a reconstruction of 10 railway crossings, consisting in building light crossing safety installations (PZS) on level crossings of the regional line Trutnov střed – Teplice nad Metují with roads of various levels. Construction works also included modifications of the level crossing surface, installing power supply for respective installations and an exchange of the railway superstructure and substructure.

”The primordial objective of the modernisation of level crossings on the line Trutnov - Teplice nad Metují was increasing operation safety. Thanks to the project, line speed can now increase up to 60 kph and speed for crossing road vehicles from the previous 30 kph to 50 kph“, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.

The project is based on Priority Axis 3 of the Operational Programme Transport which has as objective to achieve higher quality of railway transport outside the Trans-European Transport Network. Its main purpose is especially an increase of safety on railway crossings and equipment reliability, a decrease of the human factor influence and centralising safety installations.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Railway crossings on the line Trutnov – Teplice nad Metují amounted up to 115,767,894 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to an amount of 88,001,934 CZK. National financing of the project was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier was the company AŽD Praha s.r.o.
