Operation on the line Újezdec u Luhačovic – Vlárský průsmyk is safer and more economical

22.04.2016

Přerov, 22 April 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (The Railway Infrastructure Administration – SZDC) festively completed safety equipment modernisation on the line Újezdec u Luhačovic – Vlárský průsmyk. The project had as objective to build a complete remotely controlled system of dispatching and control technology in this section.

”Construction works in the section Újezdec u Luhačovic – Vlárský průsmyk are beneficial for many reasons. Installing safety equipment remote control and further modernisation improved operative control, increased safety on the line and also decreased its operational costs“, summarised Mr. Pavel Surý, director General of SZDC.

The new control system allowed remote control of safety equipment in the whole section from the Traffic Control Centre at Přerov. Thanks to modern technology, it is also possible to carry out diagnostics of individual technological installations remotely.

Safety equipment of Category 3 (the highest) has been installed during the modernisation. It controls the availability of free train route as well as forbidden train routes; signals are dependent on the positions of switches and catch points. Without automation, these conditions would have to be supervised by a detached employee.

The construction included the installation of new internal communication equipment and a camera system. Builders also reconstructed the railway superstructure and partially the railway substructure at Bohuslavice nad Vláří railway station. At other railway stations on the line, only necessary construction adaptations due to a change of technology were carried out. Bridges at Bytnice station were reconstructed too.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Remotely controlled equipment on the line Újezdec u Luhačovic (outside) – Vlárský průsmyk amounted up to 247,829,653 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was approved for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with the planned contribution from the Cohesion Fund amounting up to 188,582,388 CZK. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier was the company SIGNALBAU a.s.
