Travelling by train on the line Velký Osek – Hradec Králové – Choceň is faster and safer

Choťovice, 17 May 2016 – Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Railway Infrastructure Administration) improved parameters of a part of the railway line leading from Velký Osek through Chlumec nad Cidlinou, Hradec Králové and Týniště nad Orlicí to Choceň. The main objective of this project is achieving a technical state corresponding to EU parameters and standards.

The construction included adaptations of the railway superstructure, platforms, bridges and parts of the catenary. In the whole line section, six switches were replaced by new ones as well as concrete sleepers and rails. Electrical heating of switches was also adapted to ensure higher operation safety and functionality, especially during winter. Safety and signalling equipment and the local cable system was also renewed.

”The asset of all adaptations carried out in the line section between Velký Osek nda Chlumec nad Cidlinou is especially increased travelling comfort and safety on the line. Thanks to this project implementation, line speed drops decreased which will be appreciated especially by the passengers “, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.

In accordance with the global objective of Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 3 which is an improvement of railway transport outside the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T, higher transport availability was achieved as well as decreasing operational costs and ensuring infrastructure capacity and railway operation quality for the prospective transport extent.

Total estimated costs of the construction designated as Line 020 Velký Osek – Hradec Králové – Choceň in the section Kanín – Převýšov amounted up to 419,616,848 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to a maximum amount of 320,179,015 CZK. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier was the company TSS Grade, a.s.
