Project Preparation of Railway Connection between Veleslavín and Václav Havel Airport Gets Green Light

29.11.2016

Modernisation of the line Praha – Kladno with a connection to Václav Havel Airport is a priority transport construction of the Czech government and one of the most extensive infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic in preparation. Today, Správa železniční dopravní cesty signed a contract with the winning association of companies Metropojekt and Sudop Praha for the preparation of project documents to the railway connection between the Prague quarter Veleslavín and Václav Havel Airport.

The preparation project documents have as objective to deal with modernisation, double-tracking and preparation for electrification of the current single-track line approximately four kilometres long between railway stations Praha-Veleslavín and Praha-Ruzyně. The documents will include i.a. reopening the railway stop Praha-Liboc, recessing the railway station Praha-Veleslavín with a direct connection to the Prague Metro A Line or relocating the railway station Praha-Ruzyně to a new position beyond the crossing with Drnovská Street. The project will also include the construction of a new underground station Praha-Letiště Václava Havla (Prague–Václav Havel Airport) and a quite new double-track line 5.5 km long in the section Praha-Ruzyně - Praha-Letiště Václava Havla with a maximum speed of 80 kph. The line will lead to the airport through a new railway stop Praha-Dlouhá Míle with a connection to Park & Ride

”This is an important step for building a key line section of the railway connection between our capital city and an international airport. The modernised line from Masaryk Station to Kladno with a branch to the Ruzyně airport will be double-tracked and electrified in the whole section so that it will be possible to dispatch here up to six pairs of regular stop trains and through trains per hour during traffic peaks“, adds Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.

The earliest realistic term for launching construction of the section from Veleslavín to the airport is 2020. Nevertheless, the infrastructure manager reckons with opening a tender for designing another important section from Veleslavín to Výstaviště (Prague Exhibition Centre) next spring already.
