Part of Žďár Railway Station Made Available for the Police. SŽDC Plans to Renovate More Buildings in Vysočina

“Since we assumed the management of railway stations, we have been not only preparing their renovations but also looking for ways to utilise the existing unused premises. We want to preserve their fundamental role as station buildings, while at the same time promoting their social significance. The administrative premises at Žďár railway station have been unused for several years. The station building is situated ideally, in a busy place near the city centre. Police offices situated at the station will be highly beneficial not only to the station itself but also to its immediate surroundings", explains Mr. Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director of SŽDC for Property Management. Only minor refurbishment was necessary in order to renovate the four offices and sanitary facilities. The works started in mid-January and finished before the end of March.

"Above all, I would like to thank the management, but also other employees of Správa železniční dopravní cesty for being helpful in negotiating the possible use of space in the administrative part of the station building. I am pleased to say that we have managed to bring our co-operation to a successful conclusion and that in their division of Žďár nad Sázavou, our police dog handlers will benefit from a convenient workspace. The location of the new police offices is advantageous for maintaining public order and safety in the town and its surroundings", said Col. Mgr. Karel Sehnal, Deputy Director of the Regional Police Headquarters of the Vysočina Region for public contact.

The refurbishment of the offices at Žďár railway station is only one of a number of renovation works carried out in Vysočina this year. At Stařeč railway station, the roof is being repaired and windows and doors are being replaced, with total costs of CZK 9.4 million. In Bystřice nad Pernštejnem, the facade is being renovated for a price of CZK 2.7 million. Repair works on the roof in Dobronín are scheduled to commence in the autumn, requiring CZK 4.2 million.

Some of the major investment projects being already prepared are complex reconstructions of the station buildings in Přibyslav, Křižanov, Velké Meziříčí and Ostrov nad Oslavou. If no complications occur during the project preparation and public tendering, the works can be expected to start in the autumn. Total renovation costs for these buildings will exceed CZK 117 million. This year, only a part of the planned costs can be invested. All the projects are full-scale renovations of the buildings, i.e. roofs, facades, windows and doors, insulation, fixtures, but also the interior and public areas.

The project preparation for the reconstruction of the main train station in the regional capital will also start this year, the approximate estimate of the costs for the complete renewal being CZK 67 million. The railway station in Sklené nad Oslavou is also planned to be fully renovated for approximately 13 million. The renovation project of the railway station in Světlá nad Sázavou, listed as a protected building, will be launched.

Further extensive construction projects are planned as part of the modernisation of entire stations or railway line sections carried out by the SŽDC Civil Engineering Administration. These include repairing the platforms at Havlíčkův Brod railway station or the planned reconstruction of Jihlava-město railway station. The regionally busiest railway station in Havlíčkův Brod will have safety technologies installed, requiring significant investment as part of the planned modernisation of the Havlíčkův Brod junction between 2020 and 2022.
