The Project RIA and Czech Railway Transport for Regions is heading to Slovakia today

20.10.2016

The successful project Railway Transport for Regions exceeds our borders, heading to Slovakia. Representatives of ministries of transport, management of the Railway Infrastructure Administration and the Czech Railways, together with partners from the Slovak Railways (ZSR) and the Railway Company of Slovakia (ZSSK) shall meet at the round table in Bratislava today. The main topics of the meeting are the current and future operation of cross-border lines, including planned investments, modernisation of railways and, last but not least, coordination of regional and long-distance transport.

“Last year, round tables were held in each region within the project Railway Transport for Regions. This year, the discussion shifted to the level of inter-regional transport. And because the railway lines do not end at the border, we are expanding negotiations with neighbouring states and their regions. Today, therefore, we want to talk about cross-border cooperation with Slovak partners,” says RIA CEO, Pavel Surý while adding: “From our discussions, we see clearly how different the needs and views on the same issues of different meeting parties can be. At the same time they show what is the correct and effective way to deal with them."

During the meeting many interesting topics are opened. The carrier and the customer are interested in planned investments in cross-border lines, such as the modernisation of the section Lanžhot – Kúty or the tracks Hranice na Moravě – Horní Lideč a Veselí nad Moravou – Bojkovice. We will discuss the impact of the transition to AC supply systems in sections Čadca – Mosty u Jablunkova, or Horní Lideč – Púchov. Carriers will discuss coordination of regional and long-distance transport and the future operation of cross-border trains and interconnection of information systems for passengers.

Establish closer cooperation with individual regions and neighbouring countries, find solutions to the most pressing issues, launch negotiations that will lead to their solution. With such goals, the joint project of RIA and Czech Railway Transport for Regions is being developed. The existing feedback from the participants of the round tables participants that have taken place within the project show that these targets are being achieved.
